Doug accepted Christ as his Savior during High School. He was involved
with Intervarsity and Young Life and used to play the guitar for
some of the get-togethers. We asked Doug how he nurtures his spiritual
life given the demands of being Pastor/Head of Staff for two campuses.
Doug told us that besides daily Bible reading and prayer with wife
Sarah, he sets aside time to fast and goes on retreat.
Doug and Sarah have been married for 32 years. Sarah has worked
as a nurse and is interested in learning more about our Samaritan
Care Center. Those we have contacted have described Sarah as "Spirit-filled"
and an enormous support to Doug. They have 4 adult children; Kristen,
Matthew, Timothy and Peter and three grandchildren. Three of Doug
and Sarah's children went to Westmont. Kristen, Matthew and Peter
live in California and son Tim plans a move to California soon.
Doug is well credentialed:
Doug received his Master of Divinity from Gordon-Conwell Theological
Seminary in 1978, graduating Summa Cum Laude as valedictorian. He
earned his Doctor of Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary in
1992. Currently, Doug serves on the Editorial Board for Presbyterians
for Renewal. He has served as an adjunct professor at Mennonite
Brethren Biblical Seminary and at Fuller. Doug has also spoken at
retreats, conferences and seminars.
Why Do Doug and Sarah
want to come to Trinity?
Doug and Sarah both feel that God has called them to Trinity. Doug
sees that Trinity is a church that has a solid heart for Christ
and has resolved some difficult issues. He sees an opportunity to
help Trinity grow further in its faith and witness. Executive Presbyter
Steve Yamaguchi believes that Doug is a perfect fit with Trinity
and Doug is excited to be part of a Presbytery like Los Ranchos
that values the principles of the Confessing Church Movement.
